Buffett: ‘I’d invest in the UK’

Billionaire investor Warren Buffett has told the BBC he is still prepared to invest in the UK.

The “Sage of Omaha” was bullish about the UK’s prospects when asked if the country was a good investment.

“Sure. We own a couple of stocks in the UK. I’d be delighted to buy a good business over in the UK,” he said. Mr Buffett was also equally confident about the effects of the massive spending programmes announced on both sides of the Atlantic.

The US administration agreed a $787bn (£548bn) economic stimulus plan in February, while many European governments have also announced packages worth the equivalent of billions of dollars.

“In a period like this one, when consumers are pulling back and cutting their spending, government has to increase its spending,” Mr Buffett said.
